August Meeting Recap

A quick recap of the August meeting held last night:

WORKSHOP
A big thank you to Courtney HERE for teaching the foundation piecing workshop and providing the beautiful journal cover as a giveaway.  I have posted a picture of the journal and some of the show & tell pictures over on Flickr CMQG Group On Flickr.

BOM
Our first block-of-the-month (BOM) event was a big success with 14 blocks turned in.  Congrats to Kat for winning the gorgeous collection of granny square blocks.  The September BOM is the Japanese X and + block.  The tutorial can be found HERE.  The color scheme is BRIGHT/SCRAPPY and according to the tutorial the blocks should finish at 7 1/2" (8" with seam allowances).

Bianca matched the BOM color scheme - love it!

UPCOMING SWAP
The September swap will be MUG RUGS.  More information will be coming shortly.

NEXT MEETING (Note time change)
The September meeting will be on Thursday, September 27 at 6:30.  Please note it is 30 minutes later than usual because of a group using the room prior to our meeting.  The meeting will be held at the Morrison Library.

SEPTEMBER SEW-IN
Our next sew-in is coming up on Saturday 9/15 from 10-2.  It will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church on Carmel Road.  Hope to see you there!

Bring a quilt or sewing related book to swap (published in the last 10 years).

2.  Block-of-the-Month:

The block this month is the Granny Square block.  Bring your completed block(s) for a chance to win them all!
  • Block - Granny Square
  • Color - Navy & Coral On A White Background
  • Due Date - At August Meeting

Tutorials for the block can be found at Blue Elephant Stitches Tutorial and I'm A Ginger Monkey Strip Piecing Tutorial.

3.  Meeting Topic:

This month Courtney HERE will be covering Foundation Paper Piecing.  FPP is a great skill to have, as it gives you the ability to make very complicated blocks with near perfect results.  You can see a traditional style block  HERE and a more complicated block HERE.  For those interested, we will have a future potholder swap with paper pieced blocks.  There will be some printouts available or you are welcome to find or create your own pattern.

Hope to see you next week!
