Make Welcome

At our April meeting Beth P. discussed the Make Welcome sewing group.  Here is some more information she forwarded and a link to their website and blog.

Here's a little more info about our refugee sewing group.  We are called Make Welcome and we currently have seven Burmese women who are learning to sew.  Three of them have been able to buy their own machines through our sewing machine sponsorship program.  We meet three times a month
(usually) and are working on a variety of projects including embellished hand towels, rice bag totes and pillows, and cloth napkin sets.  We've also made headbands and fabric flowers.  We are hoping to do a bit of simple clothing sewing and also some quilting.

To learn more about the group, you can visit the website http://makewelcome.org/

We update the blog several times a month with stories about what we're doing in class and also with information about refugees.

We welcome donations of fabric, thread (not too old), zippers, buttons, scissors, irons, and other useful sewing tools and notions.

Thanks so much.  Have a great day!
Beth
