Important Dates & Fun Projects

July Meeting

What a fun meeting we had last night.  A big thank you to Jennifer from We're Sew Creative for speaking to our group and bringing all of the wonderful shop items.  They have lots of new classes and BOM programs so go check them out at We're Sew Creative.

I've added some pictures from Sew & Tell to our Flickr group CMQG Flickr Group.

Upcoming Dates

Here are a couple of guild dates to put on your calendar:
  • Next Meeting - Thursday, August 30 at 6:00 (Morrison Library)
  • Sew In Dates - Saturday 9/15 & 11/10 from 10:00-2:00 (Carmel Presbyterian Church)

New BOM

Want to try some new blocks, some new color combinations and have a chance to win lots of great blocks?  Then let's participate in the CMQG Block-of-the Month!

Each month a new block/color combination will be announced.  Complete 1 or more blocks and bring them to the next meeting.  We will have a drawing and one lucky winner will get all of that month's blocks!  You will get one entry per block turned in (1 block = 1 entry, 2 blocks = 2 entries, etc.).

     August BOM
  • Block - Granny Square
  • Color - Navy & Coral On A White Background
  • Due Date - At August Meeting

Tutorials for the block can be found at Blue Elephant Stitches Tutorial and I'm A Ginger Monkey Strip Piecing Tutorial.

Salt Lake Modern Guild Contest

The Salt Lake guild is having a Dresden Challenge and the prizes are wonderful - sewing machine, iron, gift certificates, fabric, notions...  The Linky Party will be September 1-6 so there is still time to check it out and sew an entry.  More information can be found here Salt Lake MQG Dresden Challenge.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Hi everyone.  This is Karen Ernest and I have the fun duty of being the photographer/web manager for the upcoming year.  Web manager is quite a funny term since I do NOT know what I am doing on this thing.  However, I have lots to learn and lots of fun things to share, so here goes...

MEETINGS

Our next meeting will be Thursday, July 26 at 6:00 PM at the Morrison Library.  Our speaker will be Jennifer Roycroft from We're Sew Creative.  Jennifer's store is located near Concord Mills and carries beautiful fabrics, great notions and Babylock machines.  She will be talking about what is new and hot on the market today.  She will be bringing lots of goodies for us to check out and purchase if interested (cash and credit cards will be accepted).

Also, bring what you have working on for Sew & Tell.  Quilts, bags, garments or anything sewing and fabric related.  We want to see those lovely creations!!

Doors open at 5:45 and the meeting will start at 6:00.  Don't forget to wear your name tags.  We will have paper name tags if you forget, but we strongly encourage everyone to make and wear a creative name tag.

Going forward we plan to have our meetings on the LAST THURSDAY of the month at 6:00.  If the date or time should need to change we will let everyone know.  We are only allowed to book our meeting space 1 month in advance, but we will do our very best to stick to this schedule.

Future topics we have lined-up include applique (Kat) and paper piecing (Courtney).

SWAPS

Jennifer Mathis is our new Swap Captain for this upcoming year so you know we will have some fun swaps.  Our first swap will be the book exchange and it will be held in AUGUST.  Jennifer will discuss all of the details at our July meeting.

MEMBERSHIP

Our membership year runs from June - June.  The annual membership is $40 and is now due.  Membership forms will be available at the July meeting.  We will be collecting information for a directory we will publish in the fall (available only to members).  The forms will allow you to specify what information you would like included.  For example, if you have a blog you can let us know if you would like it included on the sidebar blogroll on the CMQG site.

Visitors are STRONGLY encouraged to attend our meetings and see what we are about.  You may attend 2 meetings for free.  We would love to have you join us.

Hope to see you on the 26th!
