February Meeting - Sewing Together!

We had a wonderful turn-out for our February meeting!

Deborah is barefootin' it!!!
Members came together ready to sew, cut, measure, iron - everything needed in order to start our charity initiative this year which is to provide a small quilt and backpack for each child in Friendship Trays for our area this year.  We even had to add extra tables!

It was a happy, cheerful group, busily working together and enjoying the fun of sharing our love of quilting with our community!

Diane Krebs has taken the lead on the Backpack project and did a superb job of explaining the pattern and showing us examples of how to make these as cute as possible!

Along with quite a few cut kits, she also brought extra fabrics, lots of embellishments, and other tools needed.  A lot of our members also added contributions to the denims and other fabrics - we ended up with a mountain of fabrics to choose from!

And by the end of the evening, we even had a completed backpack - and no one was surprised that Deborah was the one who finished first!  Look at those cute fish - just one of the cute pockets Diane had made ahead of time for our kits :*)

Before we all started on our project for the evening, Eve led us in a very short business meeting, followed by Show-n-Tell - one of our favorite parts of each meeting!!!

Several members brought small quilts and tops they had made for the Friendship Trays children.  These small quilts will go inside the cute backpacks.  Eve also brought several kits she had cut for anyone who wanted to take them home and finish them.

Diane even used shirt scraps from her stash on this one!
There were also a couple of cool finishes from the Sherri Lynn Wood workshops....

Linda can't decide which way hers wants to go!

Finally, we'd like to share a very nice letter of thanks we received from our charity project last year, which was making 700 placemats for Friendship Trays, one for every person receiving the regular meals!  It said:

"Thank you so much for all these beautiful placemats!  The recipients loved them and were in awe of the beauty and intricacies of each mat.  Attached are a couple of the photos of the distribution.  We have a few left over but have designated them to go with new recipients as they come into the program."

Wishing everyone a gorgeous March!!!!

Hope to see you at our next meeting:
March 26 @ 6:30pm - Room C
St Gabriel Church, Charlotte
Program:  Libs Elliott Lecture!!!!
