March Meeting -Change in date

New date for our March meeting:

Wednesday, March 20
6:00-8:00
Carmel Presbyterian Church -2048 Carmel Rd
Ligon Hall (Building beside playground)

Due to the meeting being moved up, our hexagon BOMs will not be due until the April meeting.  Hopefully that will give everyone more time to complete some great blocks.

Also, our swap in March will be fat quarters.  Bianca has a fun game planned so bring 3 fat quarters if you would like to play along.  Sounds fun!

English Paper Piecing at Thursday Meeting

At our Thursday meeting, Bianca and Courtney will be teaching a workshop on English Paper Piecing.  We would love to have you participate by making your own hexie ring or flower.

Please bring at least 6-7 scraps cut to a 3" square and a hand sewing kit with hand needle, thread and scissors.  If you have a fabric glue stick (like lapel or sewline) you can bring that too; some people like to use them although they are not necessary.

If you already have paper hexies, please bring them, but we will have them if you don't.  You can purchase paper pieces here or print them here.  We recommend starting with the 1" size at first.

See you on Thursday!

January Recap & Upcoming Events

JANUARY RECAP

January's meeting was full of excitement.  We had 8 new guests and a total of 25 people!

Elyse gave a wonderful presentation about how fabrics go from a design concept, to strikeoffs, to production and then finally to market.  It was very interesting to learn about her job, the fabric industry, the various substrates and the trade shows.  Thank you Elyse!

We had 7 people participate in the January BOM and 12 people participate in the mini pouch swap.

We had lots to show during Sew & Tell.  Below is a snippet, but more photos can be found over on our Flickr group HERE.

February BOM - Let's explore the color of the year

Color of the year meets block of the month.

In 2012 it was TANGERINE TANGO.  This year the Pantone color of the year is EMERALD.

The Pantone website describes EMERALD as:

"Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty
that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony."

Let's have fun with this color and make a block (or more) for the February BOM.  This month's block is the X's and O's block from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.  Remember, each block you make gets you a chance to WIN THEM ALL.  This one is going to be fun.  Let's see if we can get enough blocks turned in to make a nice sized lap quilt!

Block:          X's and O's
Color:          Emerald tones on a white background

EDITED TO ADD: Please note this tutorial makes one block that will be  5" square.

A recap of the January meeting and lots of other good quilty news will be posted soon.
