Thank you all for coming to the guild party tonight! I so enjoyed our get-together and hope you did too. The Kona Challenge quilts were fabulous- great job everyone! 

I will get pictures up on the blog and on Flickr soon. 

Be thinking about some ideas/topics you would like to see us explore in the new year. I think we'll take Joyce up on her no-binding finish and her rag quilt pattern and Donna's beautiful bag!

Holiday Party

Hello everybody!

We had a great time at the first sew-in Saturday last weekend. 8 of us came together to sew and chat, and we had fun getting to know each other better. We started on the blocks for the Habitat Challenge quilts as we have enough to make two lap size quilts. 
A few of you still have blocks to turn in so please bring them to the December meeting. 

Our next meeting is our holiday party. Thursday, December 1 6:30-8:30 at FABO cafe on Selwyn Avenue.

This is a cute coffee shop/art shop/eclectic spot that serves wine and tasty treats, and I thought it would be a fun, festive place for us to have our holiday party.

There will be light snacks and beverages provided. An RSVP is needed by Monday, November 21. Please email me to let me know if you are coming.

We will have our Kona Solids Challenge Reveal at the Dec. 1 meeting as well so make sure you bring your finished item. There will be prizes as well so you definitely don't want to miss this party!

Fun Stuff Happening!

Our next meeting is coming up on the 27th and we are happy to have the ladies from the Quilter's Gallery lead a program called Rulermania! Should be fun!

Also, we are having our first Sew-In Saturday on November 5. For our first sew-in we'll be meeting at the First United Methodist Church in Gastonia with an optional stop at Mary Jo's Fabrics beforehand.   CHANGE OF PLANS- STAY TUNED! 

October Meeting

Our next meeting is Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 at Morrison Regional Library.

We are having a special program called Rulermania by The Quilter's Gallery.  They are coming to show us many different rulers and the various quilts that can be made with them. There will be demonstrations as well as finished quilts and rulers will be available for purchase after the meeting so bring your wallet in case you are inspired! The program starts at 6:15.

Be on the lookout for more information coming soon about a sew-in day in November and our location for our December social/Kona Challenge reveal.

For the holiday meeting/social, would Dec. 1 or Dec. 2 work better for you? Please reply to this post and let me know.

The September Meeting Was Great!

Thanks so much to everyone that came to our meeting tonight. I always leave on such a high as our group is so fun and friendly.

A big thanks to Elizabeth for teaching us about Free Motion Quilting. Those were great tips. We'll be posting more info about those in our Flickr group.

September Meeting

Hey Everybody!

We need a volunteer to piece together the Habitat Challenge quilt blocks.   Which one of you wonderful souls, can help out?

Our Kona Solids Challenge is underway! Reveals will be at our December 1st meeting.  Remember, you can use any two additional solids and you may make anything you like. No prints may be added. There are a few additional charm packs available if you did not pick one up at the last meeting and would like to participate.

September Meeting

Hey Everyone!

We had a great August meeting. Many thanks to Gail Toliver for our wonderful mini workshop on paper piecing. You can find Gail's tips and more here.

We are looking for someone to teach a 10 minute tip on a favorite sewing tool for our September meeting. Remember, there is a $10 gift card to Barnes and Nobel with your name on it if you teach a mini workshop. Please email me if you are interested!

Our September Meeting is Thursday, September 29 at 6:00. Mark your calendars!  We meet at Morrison Regional Library near SouthPark Mall.

If you are participating in the scrap bag swap, please bring your completed item for your partner to the meeting. We will have our swap gift exchange then. It would be REALLY helpful if you would create a mosaic in our Flickr Group for your partner so they will have an idea of what you like.

If you haven't turned in your Habitat Challenge Blocks yet, please do so at our September meeting. Remember, they need to be 12.5" x 12.5" and can be any combination of squares and rectangles with one additional solid.
Please add pictures of your blocks to our Flickr Group.

We also need a volunteer to piece together the blocks into a quilt top. This will be our guild's first charity quilt and first project. I hope you will help us make this happen. Please consider helping with this important step in the process.

Finally, we are participating in the Robert Kaufman Solids Charm Pack Challenge.
Our guild has decided:

• You can make anything you would like
• You can add up to two additional solids
• No prints
• Challenge items due at the Dec. 1 meeting

If you would like to participate, there are still a few charm packs available and you can pick one up at the September meeting.

Make 2 blocks with your 3 fat quarters.
You may add one solid of your choice.
Finished block size: 12.5"
Blocks should be made of squares and/or rectangles only.

Habitat Challenge

I am really excited about the Habitat Challenge.  Free Spirit has graciously donated Jay McCarroll's new fabric to the Modern Guilds, and we are so lucky to be receiving some.

Fabric for Modern Quilt Guild Challenge

I'm so excited to share that we are going to receive fabric from the Jay McCarroll Habitat line from Free Spirit for a Modern Quilt Guild Challenge. More details will be shared at the meeting in June but get excited people! This will be fun!

Welcome to the Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild! 

We are a group of people passionate about modern quilting.  We are a branch of the Modern Quilt Guild that began in LA in 2009.  


Modern Quilting is a marriage of the vintage skill of quilting and a modern approach and attitude.  Modern fabrics, modern design and personal interpretations update quilting and open doors of creativity for quilters of all ages. 


The CLT MQG is a place for members to share their skills, learn new techniques, meet new friends and have fun quilting. 


We are a group of modern quilters and would be happy to have you join us.  All skill levels are welcome. We hope you'll come be a part of the modern quilting revolution.
